Outreach and Experiential Learning Program in Cox’s Bazar-2025

The Department of Sociology, Green University of Bangladesh, successfully completed a three-day Outreach and Experiential Learning Program in Cox’s Bazar from 7–9 December 2025, with the active participation of faculty members and students. The program was designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities while fostering social responsibility, community engagement, and practical understanding of contemporary social issues.With the support of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the department implemented two Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-aligned outreach initiatives within the Rohingya community.

Awareness Session on Safe Childhood

On 7 December 2025, the department organized an awareness session on violence against children at a Rohingya camp. The session focused on promoting child protection, raising awareness about children's rights, and encouraging safe childhood practices within the community. The initiative contributed to the advancement of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by addressing issues related to child safety and social justice.

SDG-02: Zero Hunger Initiative

On 8 December 2025, faculty members and students conducted a food distribution program under SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). As part of this initiative, nutritious meals were distributed to 40 Rohingya children, helping address immediate nutritional needs while demonstrating the department’s commitment to humanitarian service and community welfare.

Exploring Coastal Livelihoods and Community Realities

On 9 December 2025, participants visited a local fishing community and a dried-fish processing village to gain firsthand insights into the socio-economic realities of coastal populations. Through direct interaction with community members, observation of livelihood practices, and discussions on local challenges, students developed a deeper understanding of the lives, resilience, and experiences of marginalized communities in coastal Bangladesh.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The program also included a visit to selected sites of Cox’s Bazar, allowing participants to appreciate the region’s natural beauty while fostering reflection, team bonding, and informal learning experiences.

The Outreach and Experiential Learning Program significantly enhanced students’ practical understanding of sociological fieldwork, humanitarian concerns, community engagement, and sustainable development. By connecting academic learning with real-world experiences, the initiative reinforced the department’s commitment to experiential education and social responsibility.
