The Green University Library, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, successfully organized a Library Orientation Program for newly admitted students on 5 July 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the Seminar Room (A-302) of Green University of Bangladesh.

The orientation program aimed to familiarize students with the Library’s collections, services, facilities, and access procedures. Through informative presentations and practical demonstrations, participants gained valuable insights into effectively locating, accessing, and utilizing both print and electronic resources to support their academic studies and research activities.

The program began with a welcome address delivered by Ms. Trisha Mollik, a student of the Department of Sociology. Student mentor Ms. Shahinoor Akter then shared her experiences of using the Library’s resources and services, highlighting their role in enhancing academic learning and research skills. Another student mentor, Mr. Ashikur Rahman Rakib, provided practical guidance on borrowing and renewing library materials and emphasized the importance of timely returns to avoid overdue fines.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Abul Hossain, Chairperson of the Department of Sociology. In his remarks, he underscored the significant role of the university library in fostering students’ academic excellence and intellectual growth. He encouraged the newly admitted students to make regular and effective use of the Library’s resources and facilities throughout their undergraduate journey.

The technical session was conducted by Ms. Zakia Sultana Tamanna, Library Officer, Green University Library. She provided a comprehensive overview of the Library’s collections, membership procedures, borrowing policies, facilities, digital resources, remote access services, and library regulations. The session also included live demonstrations on searching the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), accessing e-books, e-journals, databases, and other electronic resources, as well as applying advanced search techniques to retrieve high-quality scholarly information.

The Library Orientation Program served as an important platform for introducing students to the wide range of academic resources available at Green University Library and encouraging them to develop effective information-seeking and research skills from the beginning of their university life.
